Upholding the principles of Christian education, we are devoted to delivering whole-person education that fosters in children a balanced development in the six domains of spirituality, ethics, intellect, physique, social skills and aesthetics. Designed according to the Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide (2017) of the Education Bureau, our curriculum places children at the core of their learning and is designed to provide with children appropriate learning content that meets their interest and abilities.
A “child-centred” curriculum emphasises respect of children’s decision making and their autonomy, with learning content designed to cater for children’s curiosity and abilities. Our curriculum is designed to correspond to children’s needs, supported with DIY teaching tools, to create a well-regulated, stimulating learning environment with shared resources. Learning corners that are organised, systematic, well-labelled are set up to trigger children’s interests, participation and thinking in learning. Our curriculum is closely connected to children’s everyday life, shaping them to be an active and enthusiastic learner, and providing them with self-directed learning experiences for developing their knowledge, attitudes and skills, as well as a positive attitude towards learning, and thereby laying the foundation for life-long learning.
We adopt a variety of learning approaches, ranging from the thematic approach, group learning to the project approach. Children are taken on a learning journey consisting of four learning stages: experience, exploration, creation and cognition. Through introducing real-life learning topics, arranging site visits and setting up different learning corners at school, we provide children with plenty of hands-on learning activities which enable them to take ownership of their learning, and create a learning atmosphere that inspires curiosity in students, and thereby achieving experiential learning.
We allow children to engage in free play, which plays an important role in their development. In addition to teamwork, group activities and corner activities, we also adopt the HighScope teaching approach, in which children take part in the “plan-do-review” learning process, and set up multiple learning corners, where children are not limited by rules, to enable children to go through the self-learning journey of experience, exploration, creation and cognition. Show and tell sessions are also held – Students in each grade are invited to bring in objects related to a particular topic to show their peers, such as books, toys, everyday items, and are encouraged to share knowledge and experience around the topic with their peers. The benefits of this activity are mainly to enable children to put their self-expression skills to use, develop confidence and a self-directed learning attitude.
